In 1962 the first edition of the Catholic Pictorial newspaper was published in Liverpool and reported on news and views from all over the Archdiocese whilst projecting the Catholic point of view.
Mersey Mirror Ltd was incorporated as a subsidiary company in 1972 to its parent company, Catholic Pictorial Ltd to produce newspapers, periodicals and publications for external customers utilising the production team of its parent company.
In 1988 the editor of the Catholic Pictorial retired from the business and sold his majority shareholding to Ken Till, group managing director. Following the sudden death of Ken Till in 1991, his daughter Kim entered the company as a business graduate and was appointed as a director.
In 1996 the Catholic Pictorial became a monthly magazine in response to the changing market of church attendance figures, as well as to increase and reach a new audience.
With a formidable sales team, strong production skills and excellent distribution capability Mersey Mirror also expanded during the late 90’s to introduce new titles of its own. One such title was The Challenge newspaper, which covers the Knowsley borough and has a community focus for local people.
The company was restructured in 1999 to merge the businesses of the Catholic Pictorial and Mersey Mirror together as one business, CPMM Ltd.
In 2007 Mersey Mirror launched Educate magazine, a termly publication for schools, parents and pupils across Merseyside. Then in 2011 the Educate Awards was founded as an annual ceremony to recognise and celebrate excellence in the region’s schools.
The company remains a family owned business with Kim O’Brien as the managing director and also executive editor of Educate magazine.
Most recently, CPMM became CPMM Media Group following the incorporation of PR and marketing services to schools and businesses in the region.
